Rose of Mourvedre

Made from century-old vines and harvested at a very low 20.9 degrees Brix. 13.1%

Pop and Pour:  The color is truly gorgeous in the glass.  This wine is a stunning salmon and/or peach hue with hints of orange.  Definitely NOT the dark red pink of New World, not is it the pale pink of old world.  Distinct, as much of Morgan's wines are.  The nose was not really showing well early.  Somewhat light.  Brisk orange peel, light white flowers.  Quite shy early.  Ode to Lulu is a bit more alive on the palate.  Shows some acidity.  Blasts of peach come late and are very fun.  An elegant wine.  This is not a New World Rose, that's really a red wine chilled.  Feels traditional and classically made.  Refreshing.  Not an overly expressive wine early on, which may also be a fault.  Soft and feminine, looking for more to come on later.  Solid, great promise, but I want more.

Fast Forward:  3 Hours.  Nose is a little more alive, citrus and orange zest.  Melon.  Still soft and elegant.  Some of the early bitterness has loosened up a bit.  Cantaloupe and cream notes now showing.  Peach and tangerine.  The front and mid palates are quite light, flavor picks up from mid palate to finish.  Still not LOADED with flavor.  Feels elegant and soft, maybe too soft.  Some spice notes coming through.  Love the homage to old school and Provence.  Solid, just feels like a few gaps keep the wine from every feeling complete.

Overall:  I love Rose.  I can drink Rose just about all year long.  I love both old world (traditional) styles and new world (chilled red wine) styles.  Roses should be refreshing, which this is.  I just kept wanting more.  Morgan is an EXTREMELY talented winemaker, so there is no doubt his vision was Provence and an Homage to old school winemaking.  His vision was fulfilled, but there were also a few gaps.  Those gaps were hard to ignore on an otherwise lighter wine.  I love the peach tones and some of the melon and citrus that come on late, it was just not enough to keep me engaged.  A dash here and a dash there, and I kept wanting more.  I also love the color, absolutely stunning.  Yes, I said it.  At the end of the day, this Rose is refreshing and would prove a good Hot Summer day sipper.  If you are a traditional rose lover, you may want to check this wine out.  I am hoping my next bottle of Lulu is better, who knows maybe this wine was just in a bad spot at this point in time.  I liked it, I just wanted more.  AVERAGE and hoping my next bottle is better.  AVERAGE
