Pinot Gris

30,000 cases made. 12.5% alcohol. .54 Residual Sugar

Pop and Pour:  The color shows a pale gold/light platinum.  Clean and clear.  Nose has candied pineapple, mineral water, golden apples, and small white flower bouquet.  The acid just jumps right out on the palate.  Mouth watering acidity.  Candy pineapple comes through, with accents of green apple.  A refreshing wine.  Nutty finish.....does this see any oak (No)?  While refreshing, this wine is also full of flavor with great acidity and a GREAT long finish.  Feels like a wine that is better more cold than warm.  No presence of alcohol.  The front is loaded with pineapple and green apple tart on the front palate.  Acidity follows the front, in the mid palate which is then followed by an almond crust finish.

Fast Forward:  Really not much change here.  Acid and green apple are still the stars, mixed with a supporting actor of dried candied pineapple.  Solid Pinot Gris, seems to be an excellent value.

Overall:  So what did we expect from a value driven domestic Pinot Gris?  I think we expected something not this good.  The Acrobat Pinot Gris is quite good for the money, offering up a refreshing acid driven wine with loads of flavor.  With 30,000 cases of this wine made, should be no problems finding this wine either.  Could this be the best domestic Pinot Gris I have ever had at this low of a price point?  Maybe.  It is QUITE solid.  The price of this wine is merely a bow on an already prettily wrapped present.  A fantastic wine for Spring for sure.  I can only imagine how good this wine would pair with a goat cheese salad.  A very well made wine by King Estate and a HO HUM ABOVE AVERAGE.  Find this wine and give it a try, you might be as pleasantly surprised as we were.  ABOVE AVERAGE.
